Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. My name is Ms. E. Chant and I am very excited about the upcoming school year! I am looking forward to having your child in my room this year. I hope we can work together to provide the most wonderful learning environment for your child and every child in our classroom.
1) Agendas: Each child will take their agendas home every night and bring them back to school each day. I would ask that you please initial them each night! Agendas are a great way to communicate as well as keep track of upcoming events at Lochearn School.
2) Newsletters & Website: I will send home a newsletter at the beginning of each week to keep you and your family informed of our learning as well as Lochearn School happenings and events. I ask that you take the time to read the newsletter, as it is another great opportunity for us to communicate. I will post the newsletters online at http://greatgradetwos.weebly.com/ There are three websites of note for The Great Grade Twos! The Lochearn School website: https://sites.google.com/a/wrsd.ca/lochearn-school/ The Great Grade Twos website: http://greatgradetwos.weebly.com/ And our blogs at: http://greatgradetwoblog.weebly.com/
3) Communication: As stated above, one of the best ways to ensure a most wonderful learning environment for your child this year is through communication. If at anytime you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected] or give me a call at the school (403.845.3721). Sometimes I am unaware of a problem, so cannot make an effort to set it straight. Again, please contact me right away and we can work together on a solution or alternative to an issue.
4) Home Reading: It would be fabulous (and very beneficial) for your child to read to you or someone in the family for 15 minutes each evening. In the agendas, at the start of each month, there is a calendar where you can write the name of the book as well as the length of time spent reading each night. We will add up the minutes at the end of the month and students can pick a prize from my treasure box.
5) Spelling: The spelling program we will use this year is Words Their Way and will follow a 2 week cycle. I will send home a list of words for you and your child to use at home every 2nd week. We will work with the words for 10 school days and then have an assessment on those words at the end of the cycle.
6) Homework: Most projects will be completed in class, with the exception of home reading and spelling words.
7) Lunches & Water Bottles: At Lochearn, we encourage students to bring healthy lunches and snacks. In our classroom, children are allowed to eat healthy snacks throughout the day and are asked to refrain from eating a “sugary” snack until the afternoon. Look for our Healthy Weekly Challenges in the newsletters! Please send a reusable water bottle with your child. I would ask that your child bring the water bottle home once a week for proper cleaning.
8) Forms: There are a number of forms and papers that came home with your child today. Please fill these forms out and return as soon as possible! Thank you!
I have an open door policy and encourage you to drop in and introduce yourself or come volunteer at anytime! I look forward to communicating and meeting with you in the days and weeks to come!
